Nadal vs Federer – Another Page in History
What a Match? What a Win? What a Rivalry? Nadal & Federer, the greatest players of the current time are already up in the record books and considering they have not even touched 30, there is still so much tennis left in them. Federer is 27 and Nadal, 22. WOW!!!
After beating Federer in yesterday’s yet another 5-setter of Grand Slam final, Nadal has now won on 3 out of 4 Grand Slam tournaments and the missing US Open doesnt seem like far away from him. If he gets that as well he would only be the 3rd player ever to win all 4 Grand Slams.
Federer, who is chasing Sampras’s 14 Grand Slams was so disappointed that he burst into tears. He did gain his stature to complete his speech but one could only feel for the champion who has not been able to match Nadal’s fitness and passion. Not that he can’t but Nadal has come out better on the day.
Honestly, I got the feeling that Federer was back to his best and would be able to beat Nadal but I guess Nadal was prepared as well. That guy is in phenomenal form and his fitness is just big. 2 great 5-setters to win the semi-final and final, he has shown how far ahead he is from the pack when it comes to stamina and consistency. Having mental toughness as he has at this young age is just something really scary. The likes of Murray, Djokovic, Roddick, Blake and rest really need to build up their skill, stamina and mental toughness to be able to come close to the top 2 players. They might have won the one odd match here and there but when it comes to the slams, the pressure has become big on them.
Anyway, just for the record, the scoreline read 7-5, 3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 in favor of Nadal. The next slam is the French. It already has a great build-up. Nadal took Federer’s prized possession of Wimbledon last year. Can Federer steal Nadal’s prized possession of the French Open? I would really like to see that.
